UNI Earns Spot on WBCA Team Honor RollJuly 21, 2008
ATLANTA – The University of Northern Iowa women’s basketball team has earned a place on the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Academic Top 25 Honor Roll, finishing with the sixth-highest team GPA among NCAA Division I teams. The Panthers compiled a team GPA of 3.535 in 2007-08, and it is the fourth consecutive year that UNI has finished in the top 10 of the Team Honor Roll. UNI has finished in the top 15 in six of the last seven years. “I’m very proud of what our team achieved last year in the classroom,” head coach Tanya Warren said. “With such a young group you’re always anxious to see how they manage being student-athletes, but they exceeded our expectations. When you see what they have accomplished in the classroom, you understand that these players are the true definition of student-athletes. We talk to our team about becoming champions for life, and they are certainly on track to do just that.” This award, given in NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA and Junior College/Community College, awards teams throughout the nation that carry the highest grade point averages (GPA) for the entire season based on the nomination submitted by WBCA-member head coaches.
