RENETTA SEILER Assistant Coach - Throws Third Season Renetta Seiler is in her third year as an assistant coach on the UNI track and field staff, overseeing UNI's men's and women's throwers. She held the same position at the University of Miami (Fla.) from 2002 to 2005 and served as an assistant coach at her alma mater, Kansas State, from 2000 to 2002. In just two seasons, Seiler's throwers have broken six school records a total of 31 times, earned three All-America honors and claimed three MVC championships. Also, Seiler has helped mold UNI senior Rachel Jansen into a national contender and the best female thrower in school history. During the 2007 campaign, Seiler coached Jansen to two more All-America honors in the shot put. This time, Jansen took seventh place in the shot put at the NCAA Outdoor Championships with a toss of 54-7.25, while placing fourth in the shot at the NCAA Indoors. Jansen also finished 19th in the hammer throw at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. She also competed in the shot put and discus at the AT&T USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, finishing 14th in the shot. Jansen broke her own records in the shot put and weight throw during the indoor season, while setting the Missouri Valley Championships record in the shot put with a throw of 56-00.50. Also, she set the outdoor MVC meet record in the shot put with a winning throw of 56-8.75, breaking her own shot put record twice and hammer throw mark once in outdoor competition. Sophomore Sarah Harms threw a personal-best in the shot put with a toss of 47-5.75 on her way to earning third place at the outdoor Valley meet, while she finished sixth in the hammer throw. Harms also captured fourth at the MVC indoor meet in the weight throw. Junior Courtney Landers threw a personal-best in the discus at the outdoor conference meet, finishing eighth after placing 10th in the weight throw at the MVC indoor meet. In addition, junior Marcin Kazubowski earned runner-up honors at the MVC meet in the javelin before finishing 18th at the NCAA Midwest Regional. Sophomore Jesse Smith placed second in the discus at the MVC meet, while junior Lucas Cook finished 10th in the weight throw. Seiler also played a role in the success of several multi-event athletes, as she helped them improve their techniques in the shot put, javelin and discus. Freshman Dani Stipe set the school record in the heptathlon at the MVC Championships en route to capturing the title and finishing 23rd at the NCAA Championships. Junior Alyssa Fischer placed third in the heptathlon and pentathlon at both MVC meets. Senior Raven Cepeda claimed All-America honors for the second consecutive season in the decathlon at NCAA Outdoor Championships, earning fifth place and recording a personal-best in the javelin. He also set career marks in the shot put and discus in a school-record effort at the MVC Championships. Junior Mat Clark set personal-bests in the javelin and discus while capturing runner-up honors in the decathlon at the MVC meet. During the 2006 season, Seiler coached Jansen to All-America honors in the shot put. Jansen placed eighth in the shot at the NCAA Championships and also was eighth at the AT&T USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the discus. Freshman Marcin Kazubowski broke the javelin record twice, while Jansen broke her own discus record three times, setting the current record of 182-5 at the USA Qualifying meet and broke the indoor and outdoor shot put record six times. "Renetta has an outstanding record as both an athlete and as a coach," UNI head coach Chris Bucknam said. "She was an All-American as an athlete, and has coached numerous All-Americans as well. We're very fortunate to have someone of her caliber running our throws program. She is a quality individual and has already taken our throws to a whole new level." At Miami, Seiler helped the Hurricane throwers break school records 29 times in three seasons. In 2005, she coached Kim Barrett to 2005 NCAA indoor and outdoor championships in the shot put. Four of her Hurricane throwers earned conference titles, and she was a part of eight conference championship teams as a coach. She also helped Miami's women's track team to a third-place finish at the 2005 NCAA indoor championships and ninth at the 2005 NCAA outdoor championships. A standout thrower at Kansas State, Seiler was a three-time All-American in the hammer. She also earned All-America honors three times in the 20-pound weight throw. A seven-time Big 12 Conference champion, Seiler qualified for the NCAA championships a total of 11 times in four different events. Seiler is a native of Algona, Iowa, and a 2000 graduate of Kansas State with a bachelor's degree in education.
