Leon Costello became Associate Athletics Director / External in 2006.
His responsibilities include the coordination of corporate sponsorships, licensing/merchandise and marketing/promotions while also overseeing radio and television agreements for the department. Costello was promoted to Assistant Athletics Director for Marketing and Promotions in
2005 and Director of Marking and Promotions in 2003 after serving as an intern in the office. A native of Fairbank, Iowa, he received his bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Exercise and Sports Science from Loras College in 1998, and his master's in Physical Education, Sports Management, from Western Illinois in 2002.
From January through May of 2002, he was a Marketing/Game Operations intern with the Boston Celtics, organizing and implementing all facets of game operations and promotions. From May through August of 2001, he was a Marketing and Sales intern with the John Deere Classic in East Moline, Ill.. Prior to attending graduate school, he was an Account Manager with the Briggs Corporation in Des Moines, Iowa, from April of
1999 through May of 2000.
Costello was captain of the Loras men's basketball team and was a Bill Bradley Scholastic All-American. He and his wife, Heather, were married in May of 2007.
