What is available to help me explore the majors at UNI?
Advisors in Academic Advising Services are available to discuss majors that interest you and help you make contacts with faculty members in the departments that offer majors that interest you. Faculty members can assist you in obtaining information on a particular field of study. Exploring, with the assistance of an advisor in Academic Advising Services, will help you find an area of study that will challenge and excite you. "Majors and More" is a computer program that can help you explore majors at UNI and narrow your major choices. This program is available in Academic Advising Services and all computer labs on MacIntosh computers. The SIGIPLUS computer program is available in Academic Advising Services and Placement and Career Services. This program helps to determine how your interests and values relate to various fields of study and careers. Interviews or meetings with a person representing the department can give you a lot of good information about a major because it is coming from the most direct source. Some sample questions you might ask are;

considering this major? The Program of Study Homepage details the requirements for UNI majors, minors, and certificates. You may also print your degree audit through this page. The UNI Catalog summarizes all the courses available at UNI and outlines course requirements for majors and minors. It can also be accessed through the UNI home page on IBM computers in the computer labs on campus, at www.uni.edu The catalog web-site is maintained by TDP. Information about various careers is available at Academic Advising Services, Placement and Career Services, and in the Career Collection in the Rod Library. Each year, UNI hosts a Career Fair featuring a variety of employers who can help you learn about specific careers and related majors. Student organizations offer speakers and activities related to specific majors and career areas. Watch The Northern Iowan for details.
